Caroline Caldwell, Maddy Jenkins and Denise Sunta all won in singles In doubles, Amelia Delamater and Isobel Crain won at No. 1 doubles.

3/5/14  The Cedar Tennis team took on Heritage on Tuesday.  Both, girls and boys,
put up a good fight but fell short, 1 - 4 (both teams play 5 lines, 3
singles matches and 2 doubles matches).  The Jaguars were lead by Sofia
Villabos at line 1 singles (3-0 on year), and Jonah Buxton (1-2 on year).

The Jaguar boys and girls are 1-1 in the regular season and travel to
Gainesville today to take on the Elephants.

Boys lost to Morgan County 1-4. Winners were #2 Doubles of Dominic Italia and Caleb Flores. ACS Girls won 3-2. Swept singles with wins by Jilly Walters, Ansley Warnell, and Morgan Cowart.
Tuesday both teams beat Commerce 5-0. Boys winners were Carson Fields, Young Joo, Juneil Jeong, Jacob Wilson and Dalton Croy, Dominic Italia and Caleb Flores. Girls winners were Jilly, Ansley, Morgan, Hannah Pressey and Brittany Huffer, Madeline Pham and Kiara Barron. Boys are currently 3-3 on the season, girls 2-4.

Gabe Harper and Tristan Lapetz topped Sahil Patel and Trey Hayes at No. 1 doubles 6-3, 6-3. Dragan Kapuran and Krystof Bartos defeated Hunter Wagler and Cristian Perez 7-5, 6-3. Clarke Central fell to Flowery Branch in the Region 8-AAAAA semifinals and will play Heritage in third-place match.

The Oconee County boy’s tennis teams won the Region 8-AAA titles on Thursday by defeating North Oconee. The Oconee County boy’s team title came after a 3-1 win over the Titans. Oconee County’s Chandler Shields beat North Oconee’s Aashal Dave 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Oconee County’s Connor McCarthy beat North Oconee’s Kendric Hughes 6-0, 7-6. Oconee County’s Zach Miner and Dan Madden defeated North Oconee’s Wil Toney and JW Chin 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. North Oconee won at No. 1 singles with Ray Donovan beating Drew Horsley 6-2, 6-0.

 

RED RAIDERS WIN REGION TITLE: The Madison County boy’s tennis team defeated Chestatee 4-0 in the semifinals of the Region 8-AAAA tournament before beating Lanier 3-1 in the final to capture the title. Against Lanier, Hank Sartain won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, Adam and Ben Sartain won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, and Koti Nguyen and Hayden Colquitt won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

 

Against Chestatee, Ben Strickland won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Tyler Terrell won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Hank Sartain won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Adam and Ben Sartain won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.

 

The Red Raiders (18-3, 13-0 Region 8-AAAA) earned a No. 1 seed from their region for the state tournament.

MADISON COUNTY 3, CHESTATEE 2: In the consolation match of the Region 8-AAAA tournament, Maranda Dove won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Morgan Dooley won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Abby Thrasher won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

The Red Raiders (11-9, 7-5 Region 8-AAAA) finished third.

The Oconee County girl’s tennis teams won the Region 8-AAA titles on Thursday by defeating North Oconee.

The Oconee County girl’s team clinched the 3-1 victory over the Titans with Katy Kane defeating Mary Campbell Cobb 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Oconee County’s Julia Hardell beat North Oconee’s Gemma Kummerer 6-3, 7-5 at No. 3 singles. Oconee County’s Megan Morris and Erin Horsely defeated North Oconee’s Sydney Young and Kaeley Crane 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. North Oconee won at No. 2 doubles with Maddie Bruning and Megan Reid beating Emily Miner and Jenna Bradley 6-2, 6-2.

 

Jefferson to host GAC in state playoffs: Jefferson’s boys and girls tennis teams will open the Class AA state tournament by hosting Greater Atlanta Christian in the first round on Tuesday. The girls won the Region 8-AA title, will play at 3:30 p.m. and the boys, who finished second will play afterwards. The All-Region 8-AA teams were announced, with six girls named first-team and four boys earning first-team honors. The girls included Cailyn Diianni, Abi Muesse, Olivia Yates, Charlie Beatty, Rheagan Wessels and Kadi Perry. The boys included Gage Thompson, Jordan Tyler, Justin Harrison and Nathaniel Trawick. Jackson Howard was named to second team.

 

Athens Academy won both quarterfinal matches 3-0 over GWA.

Monsignor Donovan and Bethlehem Christian both had players qualify for the GISA Class AA state team tournament on April 29 in Augusta and the individual state tournament on May 2 in Macon.

 

The Rams had two players in the singles finals, Alex Diaz defeating Magill Bauerle 6-3, 6-1 for the region championship. Monsignor Donovan’s No. 1 doubles team of Carl Terns and Ford Smith defeated Bethlehem Christian’s Jacob Dickinson and Tyler Legg 8-6 for the region doubles title.

 

Monsignor Donovan’s David Bell was named the boys region coach of the year.

 

Bethlehem Christian’s Harrison LaBolitta finished third in singles and also qualified for the state tournament, as did Aaron Clifford and Aaron Gano.

OCONEE COUNTY 3  DECATUR 1  The Warriors got a singles victory and two doubles wins to defeat visiting Decatur in the first round of the Class AAA state tournament. Chandler Shields won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. In doubles, the No. 1 team of Zach Miner and Dan Madden won 6-1, 6-1 and the No. 2 team of Landen Benson and Venya Wilson won 6-0, 6-1.

OCONEE COUNTY 3  DECATUR 2  The Warriors earned two singles victories and a doubles victory to defeat Decatur in the first round of the Class AAA state tournament.

Katy Kane won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and Caroline McElhannon won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2. In doubles, the No. 2 team of Emily Miner and Jenna Bradley won 6-0, 6-3.

 

MONSIGNOR DONOVAN EXTENDS STREAK: Defending state champion Monsignor Donovan won its fourth consecutive GISA Region 1-AA title.

Defending state singles champion Katie Scherer won her third straight region singles crown without dropping a game, culminating in a 6-0, 6-0 rout of Briarwood’s Sage Havrilla. Coach David Bell was named the girl region coach of the year.

Ray Donovan (18-0) remained undefeated after a 6-3, 6-0 win over Mike Malina at No. 1 singles. Aashal Dave fell to Austin Causey 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Kendric Hughes lost to Parker Jones 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Will Toney and Jay W. Chin fell to Griffin Kunkler and Parker Leib 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.

 

ATHENS ACADEMY 3 HEBRON CHRISTIAN 0 Danny Sullivan helped Athens Academy to an area title with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Rob Clements won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Nathan Iyer and Jordan Sennowitz won 7-5, 5-3 at No. 1 doubles.

PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN 3 ATHENS ACADEMY 1 Athens Academy fell in the finals of the Class A area tournament. Athens Academy’s Grace Trimpe and Conley Messer won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

 

CHAMBLEE 4 MADISON COUNTY 0 Madison County lost in the first round of the Class AAAA state tournament.

 

Area 2A finished tournament today. Athens Academy boys beat Providence 3-0 in semis, then maintained their longstanding area streak with a 3-0 win over Hebron
Christian with senior Danny Sullivan clinching the win just before 1
doubles had the chance to finish their match for the clinch.

Athens Academy girls had a hard-fought victory over Hebron in semis led by #2 s Rhea Chatterjee's quick win followed by both doubles team's straight set wins.
Caroline Doherty played a compelling match at #1 with a wide variety of
shotmaking. In the finals #2 doubles got AA off to a quick lead, but really
strong singles play from Liberty University-bound #1 s player Vani Crist
led her fellow singles players to the title. In an odd quirk both
championships served as birthday presents as well for AA's Alex Boyette and
Providence's Alex Schlesener.

 

The Oconee County boys tennis team defeated Cartersville 3-0 on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Class AAA tournament. Drew Horsley 6-1 6-2 won at No. 1 singles and Connor McCarthy won 6-1 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Dan Madden and Zach Miner won 6-3 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. The Warriors will play in the quarterfinals next against the winner of the Woodward vs Buford match.

 

The Oconee County girl’s tennis team swept Coahulla Creek 3-0 in the second round of the Class AAA state tournament Friday. Caroline McElhannon won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 and Julia Hardell won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3. Katy Kane’s match at No. 1 singles was suspended when the Warriors clinched the victory. The No. 1 team of Megan Morris and Erin Horsley won 6-1, 6-2. The No. 2 doubles match with Jenna Bradley and Emily Miner was suspended when the Warriors clinched the match.

MADISON COUNTY 4 COLUMBUS 1 The Red Raiders won at all three singles positions and a doubles to move ahead to the third round of the Class AAAA state tournament. Ben Strickland won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1, Tyler Terrell won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2 and Hank Sartain won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3. Koti Nguyen and Hayden Colquitt won 7-5, 6-2. Madison County (20-3) will now face No. 1 Marist in the third round next week.

Oconee County fell in the boys and girls Class AAA state tennis quarterfinals on Thursday.

 

Woodward Academy defeated Oconee County’s boy’s team 3-0.

 

Drew Horsley fell to Andy Martinez at 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Chandler Shields lost to Cole Ritchey 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Venya Wilson and Landen Benson lsot to Josh Bircoli and Walker Robotscher 6-3, 6-2. Oconee County’s boys finished the season 18-5.

 

St. Pius topped the Oconee County girl’s team 3-0.

 

Oconee County’s Katy Kane fell 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Caroline McElhannon was swept 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Emily Miner and Jenna Bradley lost 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. The Oconee girl’s ended the season 17-6.

 

MON DON PLAYERS ADVANCE: Monsignor Donovan had four players advance to semifinals of the GISA Class AA individual state tournament. Alex Diaz and Magill Bauerle won two matches to advance to the singles semifinals and Carl Terns and Ford Smith also won twice to advance to the semifinals

SCHERER MOVES ON: Monsignor Donovan’s Katie Scherer won two matches to advance to the semifinals of the GISA Class AA individual state tournament.

Monsignor Donovan was well represented Friday at the GISA Class AA state individual championships in Macon, winning two singles titles. Alex Diaz defeated his teammate Magill Bauerle for the singles championship, with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Katie Scherer won her second consecutive state singles championship by defeating Valwood’s Maggie Scruggs 6-1, 6-4. Carl Terns and Ford Smith advanced to the semifinals in doubles. All five of Monsignor Donovan’s players were named to their respective GISA All-State Class AA teams. The team championships will take place on May 19 in Macon.
